FAQs
Is MCPAW part of County government and the County Animal Shelter?
No. MCPAW is an independent 501c3 non-profit organization. Because MCPAW was so intimately involved with the establishment of the new Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center (MCASAC), MCPAW is often confused with being the shelter. MCPAW is a separate organization. We have been their fundraising partner and work closely with them on many of our initiatives. They also kindly store pet food donated to MCPAW at their facility and accept MCPAW mail sent to their location and see that is it delivered to us.
How does someone apply for a MCPAW grant to provide medical care or other services for a pet?
See our PROGRAMS page on this website for information.
What are MCPAW’s immediate needs & goals?
Our key need is funding to build our capacity to provide emergency grants for pets and their pet—parents in need. Too often we are presented with a case and have to seek funding over days or weeks. If we had the money already in our accounts, we could more quickly ease the pain and suffering of those we serve and expand our impact to more throughout the county.
How does my business become a MCPAW sponsor/partner?
Please send an email to Info@MCPAW.org and we will respond as soon as possible. We offer various and customized win-win partnership opportunities.

Do I need to license my pet?
By law, dogs and cats over 4 months of age must wear current rabies and pet license tags. It can save your pet's life. An immediately visible license tag on your pet's collar is the fastest way to be reunited with your lost pet and is only issued with proof of regular vaccination against the deadly rabies virus. The rabies tag issued by your veterinarian is NOT your County license!
You can license you pet online or submit an application in person or by mail. Applications and further information can be found by visiting the MCASAC Pet Licensing page.
