MCPAW ANNOUNCES NEW, EXPANDED MISSION, PROGRAMS, AND SERVICES

In February 2021, the MCPAW Board of Directors approved the organization’s new mission statement:

The Mission of Montgomery County Partners for Animal Well-Being (MCPAW) is:

To end pet homelessness and suffering in our community with proven actions and compassionate services including providing veterinary care, pet food, and other resources, and removing all barriers to adoption including keeping shelter animals medically and emotionally healthy and matching them with well-prepared adopters to create forever homes.

And, the organization expanded the programs and services that MCPAW provides to include the following:

Penelope - What's the Diagnosis

Penelope.png

Meet lovely Penelope, a 4-year-old beautiful black tortie who came into MCASAC as a stray. She has not been feeling well so MCPAW offered to pay for her to see a veterinary specialist. We have not received a definite diagnosis yet but she shows symptoms of irritable bowel disease. MCPAW's mission is to ensure homeless sick or injured animals can receive needed treatment, so we will be paying the bill for Penelope. Won't you please help us by giving whatever donation you can? Thank you for always being there to help us help the animals! Please donate here.

Jax the Puppy

Jax 1 Cropped.jpg

Last month, a 10-week-old Malamute named Jax was surrendered to the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center. He had a very serious condition called intussusception where a segment of the large or small intestine telescopes into a nearby portion of the digestive tract. It can be deadly because it can cause gastrointestinal blockage or cut off blood supply and kill the affected tissue. MCPAW paid to have his surgery already - $4,000.

But Jax took a turn for the worse and went back in the hospital. Sadly, he did not make it and we are heartbroken.

Already this year, MCPAW has spent 50% of our 2020 budget for the Veterinary Medical Fund.

Will you help us by making a donation? We will never want to say no to any animal in need.

Donate now. Thank you for your support!

Thank you, Weruva!

MCPAW is very grateful to Weruva for donating to MCPAW’s free pet food pantry! They donated 2592 5.5 oz pouches of cat food. This donation is so important to help keep pets in their homes for people who are having financial difficulties. MCPAW does what we can to keep pets and people together. Many thanks, Weruva, Chris Hughes and VIcki Thomas for arranging for the donation, and Patrick Rayner for transporting it!

Stunning Stella Needs Surgery

Stella 1-23-20.JPG

It's a brand new year so of course, there are more homeless animals who need our help. Meet Stella, a stunningly beautiful brindle 5-year-old. The Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center staff cannot rave enough about how wonderful this girl is. She has a torn cruciate ligament in her rear leg which requires surgery. Without a doubt, MCPAW has agreed to fund the surgery. Who can say no to this face?! Will you help us by making a donation for Stella's surgery? MCPAW has committed never to say no, but we cannot do that without your help. Thank you for always being there for us and the animals. http://www.mcpaw.org/take-action-1

A-peel for Banana!

Banana5.jpeg

Hi, my name is Banana. Yes, it’s a silly name but it fits me because I’m a silly 11-week-old golden retriever puppy. If you know us goldens, we’re very happy and active dogs. I have a sad story but I’m not going to let that stop the rest of my life from being filled with happiness. I had a condition that made eating no fun. I would vomit every time I ate because of something called a diaphragmatic hernia. The vet at MCASAC said that it’s a congenital issue (inherited from one of my parents) which causes my intestines and other abdominal organs to move into my chest. That’s what causes the vomiting, and may also cause diarrhea, anorexia, and trouble breathing. I didn’t want to live my whole life like this, so Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center asked MCPAW if they would pay for surgery to correct this problem. And, of course, MCPAW said yes! Will you help MCPAW by donating to their Veterinary Medical Fund? My surgery cost nearly $3,000 and MCPAW has already paid my bill. I am recovering nicely in a great foster home! Thanks for helping me and the other pets at MCASAC! http://www.mcpaw.org/take-action-1/

A Matching Donor!

By now, you know that MCPAW's Veterinary Medical Fund has been severely challenged this year with so many sad medical cases needing our attention. We are presently about $10,000 over budget. But MCPAW has made the commitment to Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center that no animal will be turned away from needed medical attention.

And wouldn't you know it, another case has come into MCASAC who needs MCPAW's help. Meet Seneca, a 15-week-old large mixed breed pup who just melted our hearts. He was seized in a neglect case and upon examination by MCASAC's Medical Director, he was diagnosed with a severe patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and a mild subaortic stenosis. A PDA is when a large blood vessel fails to close after birth. This causes the blood to bypass the lungs and never get oxygenated when he breaths. Without a very specialized surgery performed by a cardiologist, Seneca would likely go into congestive heart failure and die with in 2-6 weeks based on the severity.

How could we possibly say no to this face? Seneca was rushed into surgery immediately and is doing well so far. But MCPAW has a very large bill to pay.

One of MCPAW's major donors has offered to give a challenge gift. If MCPAW can raise $5,000, he will match that with another $5,000. But we only have until the end of August to do it!

Will you help us meet the challenge to raise $5,000 by August 31? Seneca and all of the other pets helped by MCPAW are very grateful for your compassionate support. Donate Now.

Thank You, Safeway!

Our thanks goes out to Safeway for accepting MCPAW into their Pet Project program. They delivered three pallets of cat and dog food, and kitty litter which will stock MCPAW’s pet food pantry located within MCASAC. And MCPAW also donated half of the cat food and kitty litter to the Montgomery County Community Cat Coalition (MC C3). And special thanks goes out to the team who helped unload and shelve everything!
